Our Lab at ISB15!

This June, several members of our lab traveled to San Sebastian to present their work at the 15th International Symposium on Bilingualism (ISB15). The conference brought together researchers from around the world to explore how bilingualism shapes cognition, language development, and social life and we were thrilled to be part of the conversation.
From code- switching to cross-linguistic influence, our team shared a diverse range of studies on bilingual speakers across different communities and contexts. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, get feedback, and connect with scholars working on similar questions.

The range of work on code-switching and heritage languages is interesting. Are any of the ISB15 posters or talks available online? Language access also matters when families compare New York assisted living: it is worth asking which languages staff speak and how residents can keep meaningful conversations in their preferred language. It would be useful to hear whether the lab has explored bilingual communication across different ages.
Family involvement can provide meaningful support when appropriate and welcomed by the individual receiving treatment. Education and communication can help loved ones better understand recovery, boundaries, and healthy ways to offer encouragement. Shoyoroll Gi Family-focused sessions may address communication patterns and expectations while supporting healthier relationships. Not every situation requires the same level of family participation, so treatment plans should remain individualized. Positive support from trusted people can complement professional care and encourage continued progress.
